A Review Of Some Of The Better Restaurants In The Area Of Bergen County
While you may not expect NJ to be something of a cultural melting pot, surprisingly, it offers a great selection of the different ethnic cuisines (given you know where to look). There are countless Northern NJ restaurants that offer excellent food from all over the world, from Asian cuisine to wonderful Italian dishes. Let’s look at a few great examples of how you can try international cooking without having to travel too far.
A perfect example of one of the many international North Jersey restaurants is Ridge Thai, in Ridgewood. Ridge Thai provides authentic Thai cuisine that is sure to please anyone who wants a change of pace from the usual. One of their well-known specialties is the barbecued chicken in a peanut sauce. In fact, their sauce is widely considered to be some of the best available anywhere in the state. That being said, Ridge Thai has other items that stand out just as well. Mee-groab is a dish and a house delicacy which consists of crispy rice noodles served in a sauce made from tamarinds, and it also includes lettuce and bean sprouts. One of the other great items found on the menu is the Tom Kha Gai, and this is made with a chicken sauce consisting of lime juice, coconut milk, and onions. This combination of ingredients might sound strange to an American, but they are traditional Thai items that combine quite nicely.
Once you’ve had enough of Southeast Asian style cuisine, you can head over to The Royal Warsaw. This establishment is one of the better Polish restaurants in North Jersey, providing all of the traditional staples found in Polish foods. Popular menu items include stuffed cabbage and kielbasa (a Polish sausage). Pirogues are a great example of Polish food: they are little dumplings that can be stuffed with a variety of ingredients, from cheese to meat to sauerkraut. The food is generally quite affordable, ranging between ten and twenty dollars for an entrée.
Biagio’s Ristorante is a wonderful Italian restaurant, and has all of the qualities that make a restaurant so perfect. It’s a family owned and operated restaurant, and is set away from the strip malls and shopping centers that are occupied by all of the tourists. It is set in a rather tiny, hole in the wall kind of building, in a quiet area near Bergen Community College. Simply put, the food is fantastic (not to mention the wine), the prices are low, and the service is great.
